YOUNGSTERS from Old Cleeve First School have been putting their mark on a low carbon energy project in their area.
Roadwater Village Trust, which runs the village hall and recreation ground, introduced a series of energy efficient and low carbon measures earlier this year with the help of grants from LARC (Local Action for Rural Communities) and Exmoor National Park Authority's Carbon Neutral Exmoor Scheme.
And in July, year four pupils from Old Cleeve and their teacher Petri Cole visited the hall and spent a day looking at the new systems with members of the trust's committee.
The considered different ways of helping local people understand the carbon emissions avoided by just one of the new installations, photo voltaic panels.
To help get the message across the children decided to design a pictorial graph with clouds depicting the emissions, which was made by teaching assistant Angela Barker.
And they went along to update it when village hall fundraisers staged a Big Breakfast as part of the Exmoor Low Carbon Energy Week.
As well as giving people the change to swap information and ideas, the event also raised £142 for trust funds.
The youngsters' graph was on display and revealed that since March, a total of 1,053 kg of carbon emissions had been avoided in the hall.
A trust spokesman said: "It is gratifying that a number of village residents are now having energy saving equipment installed in their homes."
