ONE of Wiveliscombe's best-known firms, Stacey Construction, has been put in to liquidation with the loss of around 60 jobs. Bosses blamed the move on two customers failing to pay their "excessively large bills" which had reduced cash flow through the business. Managing director Shaun Stacey said he had put the firm into liquidation to try and retain some control over the situation and hoped to start a new company and re-employ around half of the axed staff. Stacey Construction was founded in 1967 by Mr Stacey's father Mike and has several major clients, including Esso, Shell, BP and Roadchef. It has both a small works division and a major contracting arm and it is believed the petrol forecourt construction part of the business is likely to continue as a new company.
