SIR — Having been a regular swimmer at Aquasplash, swimming at least three times a week and not having swum since it closed, I decided I would try swimming at the Taunton pool.

So I had to wait for the bus at Williton (which was late), then a 50-minute bumpy bus ride, costing me £4.80 for a single journey. The bus did not go past the swimming pool so I had a brisk 13-minute walk to get there. The admission charge was reasonable £3.20. Luckily, I had a lift back home or it would have cost me another £4.80.

So although I had a lovely swim, the cost and the hassle of getting there was not worth it. Ideally I would like to swim two or three times a week, but it is just not feasible.

When are we going to get a pool? It is desperately needed - soon we will be a nation of 'fatties'.
