SIR — On Monday night I was delighted to attend Wootton Courtenay’s annual parish meeting.

It was held in the village hall and was a very successful event. Congratulations to the parish council organisers!

Usually, parish councils hold their annual meeting to report and re-elect the chairman and other roles, and this can go unnoticed by those they serve.

This event combined the “official” agenda with a buffet supper, a hangings exhibition and a video showing and was, as usual, very well attended.

What a good idea for others! Porlock with Oysters next year?
