SIR — This is a letter to the one or two selfish people who are allowing their dogs to use the area in Porlock known as The Drang as a place to let their dogs foul unseen.
The Drang is a path bounded by walls, shrubs and trees, used every day by a lot of people going to the shops and by mothers taking their children to school.
Has it ever crossed your mind what happens to your doggie-poos you leave behind?
Let me enlighten you: 1) It goes on the wheels of mothers' pushchairs and on their childrens' shoes and gets walked into the school. 2) It goes on our shoes and several of us have mobility aids and it ends up on the wheels — would you care to clear it off for us?

Santa arrives by sea with touch of magic for Porlock Weir inaugural festive afternoonOf course not because it smells, that's why you don't stop to pick it up in the first place. 3) It ends up outside doors and gates of folk who live on the Drang. My friend had a heap of it left outside her gate which, had she stepped in it would have been hard for her to sort out at 95 years of age, her daughter-in-law was not so lucky and had to wash her shoes off while her husband cleared it all up.
Another couple have had to put up a notice on their driveway because it was being used as a dog toilet.
We have a wonderful street cleaner called Eric who sweeps the Drang and for a very short time it is clean, but he can't be each end of the path 24-7 with a shovel and broom.
There is no excuse - there is a dog bin at the church end of the Drang and another one halfway up the path.
The council has done its best and put "no dog fouling" notices on every lamppost along the path.
The dog walkers I see are all very responsible people who clear up after their dogs. I think the one or two who don't must be going out early morning or late at night when no-one is around.
If we should get a warm summer the Drang could become a health hazard.
