NON-urgent transport services for patients in Somerset are to be provided by a new organisation from October.
E-Zec Medical Transport Services Ltd, which currently operates in Dorset, Hereford, Birmingham and London, has won a five-year contract valued at £2.2 million.
It was awarded by the GP-led Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the county’s district hospitals and community health service trust.
David Slack, Somerset CCG’s managing director, said: “This essential service supports many thousands of pre-booked journeys each week for those patients with a clear medical need.”
The E-Zec Medical Transport Service will provide transport to patients between 6am and midnight, seven days week including bank holidays.
Andy Wickenden, Commercial Director with E-zec Medical Transport Services said: “The E-zec team are delighted with the outcome of the tender process and are looking forward to providing patients in Somerset with a high quality transport service.
“The Somerset service is a fantastic addition to our existing contracts and expands our services across the South West of England.”
