MINEHEAD Community Hospital has won top marks from patients for 2015 – ahead of both the Somerset and national averages - in special assessments carried out each year, with Williton Community Hospital close on its heels.

The assessments, called Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE), saw all Somerset’s 13 community hospitals and nine mental health wards score above the national average.

Of those, Minehead Community Hospital came top in every category and Williton Community Hospital scored highly in almost every area patients reviewed, including cleanliness, food, privacy, dignity and wellbeing, condition, appearance and maintenance, and a new category of dementia-friendly.

In the cleanliness category both hospitals achieved a perfect score of 100 per cent, while Minehead also scored 100 per cent for condition, appearance and maintenance.

Norma Coombes, matron of both hospitals, said: “I am very proud of these scores, they are testament to the hard work and commitment of all staff at Minehead and Williton Community Hospitals.

“A good, clean hospital with healthy food and a comfortable environment all help to make a pleasant stay and a speedy recovery for our patients.
