PORLOCK Weir now has defibrillator paid for by the Porlock Community Soup Days and generous donations from residents.
Dr Ed Ford, based at Irnham Lodge, Minehead, has trained 100 volunteers in Porlock and Porlock Weir in CPR and how to use the defibrillator.
People have also volunteered to check the equipment on a weekly basis to ensure it is in full working order.
The project was instigated by Denise Sage and the equipment – which is in the car park on the public toilet wall – was organised by Miles Robertson.
It is hoped that it is never needed, but it is recognised that following a cardiac arrest, quick intervention with CPR and a defibrillator is a life safer.
