A COTTAGE in Holford has been officially opened as a haven of rest for people caring for a loved one with cancer or a life-limiting illness.

St Margaret’s Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support are working together to provide breaks for carers at Quantock House, offering them the chance to relax in a restful environment, either individually, as a family or to meet other carers.

Health and social care professionals were among those at the official launch on Friday, July 8.

They experienced some of the services, such as hand massage and reflexology, and cream teas were freshly prepared by Macmillan Quantock House co-ordinator Barbara Ruff.

The ribbon was cut by a carer who has already benefitted from the facility: “I didn’t realise how run down I was until I took the time out to relax,” he said.

“Looking back now, I don’t think I could have coped without that short break.”
