THERE were high spirits at Wimbleball Lake on Sunday (June 5) when South West Fishing For Life celebrated its eighth anniversary.

The organisation for people with one thing in common – breast cancer – started at Wimbleball and now has seven groups across the South West plus one in the Pennines.

On Sunday, members from Wimbleball, Kennick, Blagdon and Hawkridge groups got together and swopped notes about their local lakes – and their own experiences of the benefits of gentle exercise under expert supervision.

They spent time fishing together before tucking into a barbecue produced by volunteers.

Wimbleball is now the head office as it is where South West Fishing For Life (SWFFL) was founded eight years ago thanks to the generosity of the South West Lakes Trust which allows use its facilities.

It is hoped SWFFL will grow throughout the country so that anyone suffering or recovering from breast cancer has the opportunity to go fly fishing.
