SIR — May I through the pages of your paper thank the customers of the Williton Co-Op who so very generously supported the West Somerset Food Cupboard collection held there last Friday. The result was truly wonderful with enough food to make up another 20 food parcels which will go those many individuals and families who, through no fault of their own, are unable to purchase even the most basic of foods. All those receiving parcels are thoroughly vetted through professional care agencies who have the facilities to make detailed enquiries about the circumstances of the proposed recipient before a food parcel is dispatched, thereby ensuring that they only go to those in genuine need. My thanks must also go to the 'Love Williton' group who organised the collection on our behalf and to the staff and management of the store for allowing the collection to take place. The parcels are a life line for those who receive them and we receive some very emotional notes of thanks detailing the effect they have. Last week was no exception as we learned of a very vulnerable client who was living alone and, because he had failed to keep an important appointment, enquiries were made as to his welfare. The police attended and found him in a very distressed state. He had not eaten for a number of days. His food cupboard was completely bare. A parcel was dispatched immediately and, upon seeing it, he broke down in tears as he did not think that anyone cared about his plight yet every item in that box showed that many people cared not only about him but others in that situation. So my thanks again to all who support us. Your gifts do have a huge impact upon those we support. Christine Payne, Co-ordinator, West Somerset Food Cupboard.
