GRANDPARENTS Rosemarie and Robert Shopland are hoping a festive tradition will boost the funds of the unit which has helped care for the family's two very special new arrivals. With hopes of having babies Theo and Jake home in time for Christmas, Rosemarie (pictured) and Robert decided the tradition of decorating the outside of their Porlock home would provide an opportunity to raise some much needed funds for Musgrove Park Hospital's neo-natal intensive care unit. "We've been putting up loads of lights, Santas, snowmen, reindeer and other decorations for at least the last 18 years," said Robert. "We've never used it to collect money for charity or anything else in the past but this year we decided it would be a good way of showing our support for the neo-natal unit and all it has done for the family." The twins' parents Adrian and Michelle, who also live in the village, have estimated that the cost of caring for the babies before they are allowed home could top £1 million and launched an appeal for donations when the Free Press broke their story in November. "The family has nothing but praise for the professionalism, expertise and support offered by the staff in the unit," said Robert. The festive extravaganza at the Shoplands' Bay Road home is switched on at 5pm daily and you can make a donation there, or you send a contribution direct to the unit. Photo: Steve Guscott
