OVER £1,000 was raised when 110 members and guests of Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club took part in the successful club charity day in the sunshine on Sunday (August 30).

The day started at 7.20am, with the last players recording their scores at twilight.  It was a good-hearted competition, played in pairs with participants being able to buy extra shots or pieces of string to get ‘gimme’ putts.

There was a raffle and a blind auction, which included bids for rounds of golf at other clubs.

Winners in the different categories were: Gents – Mark Matravers and Jimmy Baker; Ladies – Deano Carlin and Paula Parkin; Gent and Lady – Martin Wombwell and Jennifer James; Member and Guest – Willy Brown and A Baird; Member and Non Handicap – Mark Ogden and Mike Phillips.

Club captain Ian Gover, pictured with some of the prizes, said the day was “phenomenally successful”.

He aded: “The generosity of the people that provided prizes and players meant that over £1800 was raised on the day for the British Heart Foundation and Musgrove Park Hospital Beacon Centre.

“The smiles, conversations and friendliness shown by all the players was a wonderful part of the day and I would especially like to thank Mr Mulligan for his positive impact.”
