A dream came true for an Exmoor military rider when she and her team won their event at the Royal Windsor Horse Show and were presented with a trophy by the Queen.

Lisa Leighton, 33, a staff sergeant in the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery, was a member of the Defence Animal Training Regiment’s A team which won the show’s Challenge Cup for Military Working Horses.

“It was a dream come true for many of us military riders and a personal goal for me,” said Lisa, from Brompton Regis.

“We were presented with our trophies by the Queen, who asked me about my role at the defence animal training regiment.

“This moment will live with me forever - all the hard work over the years, from my parents purchasing me my first pony as a kid to the amazing horses I have been so lucky to ride, it all came down to this moment.”

Lisa was one of a three-strong team in the jumping competition – and the last rider to tackle the course.

“I was on military working horse Kaito, or Colin to his friends, who I have been competing with for a year now,” Lisa said.
