An open garden day at Burges Meadow, Maundown, near Wiveliscombe, raised £2,500 for armed forces charity SSAFA.

Laid on by SSAFA Somerset, the open day attracted nearly 300 visitors to the two-acre hillside garden (pictured) featuring streams and ponds.

Pauline Homeshaw, SSAFA Somerset’s publicity officer, said: “Our open garden was a huge success, raising so much money for such a worthy cause.

“The visitors loved looking round the scenic site and enjoying our cream teas – every single cake and scone went! I’d like to thank the visitors for their generosity and to the organisers who worked hard to make the day a success.”
