A strict disciplinary system led to £150 being raised for the children's ward at Yeovil District Hospital.

Coaching staff and players at the Yeovil branch of the F.A Mini Soccer Centre introduced a system that saw players being fined for smiling, improving skills etc. Coaches and players' parents could find themselves paying up if caught wearing certain kinds of clothing, or committing other misdemeanours, for example.

Any male coach confessing to have a girlfriend at the time of the two-hour training session were fined instantly, while parents trying to dictate what their children should do were fined, too. Training sessions are held by qualified coaches on Sundays at Westland FC, Bunford Lane, from 10am-12noon.

A spokesperson said the initiative was aimed at boys and girls wanting to learn new skills and make new friends in a fun football environment. New players can show up on the day or call 01935 420917 for more information.
