From 'quack pack' to hounds, falconry, and vintage tractors at Dunster Country Fair

FUN and entertainment for all the family brought the crowds to the 48th Dunster Country Fair on Dunster Castle Lawns, making it what the organisers described as ‘a day to remember’.

A spokesperson said: “It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the fantastic atmosphere, the attractions, and the glorious weather.

“None of it would have been possible without the dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work of our incredible committee and volunteers.

“For months, they have given their time, energy, and expertise behind the scenes to plan, organise, and deliver an event that brings our community together and showcases the best of rural life.”

One trader exhibiting in the ‘Village Green’ section said: “There is always a lovely atmosphere, a great setting.

“Thank you to all involved in making it a great day.”

Day-long entertainment from ferret-racing and falconry to vintage vehicles, heavy horses, and a traditional Punch and Judy show ensured there was never a dull moment for the near-capacity crowd.

The main ring featured a hound show, Pony Club mounted games, an Exmoor Pony show, and a ‘quack pack’ involving sheepdogs guiding a flock of Indian Runner ducks through a series of obstacle courses.

Dog enthusiasts were catered for with a family fun dog show and a gun dog scurry in which dogs retrieved a dummy against the clock.

Other attractions included a Western Counties Heavy Horse Society display, BMX stunts, and a parade of vintage tractors.

The ‘Village Green’ provided demonstrations and interactive displays, trade stands, craft tents, charity stands, and a food hall containing a wide range of refreshments.

Country craft demonstrations featured wool-spinning, pottery, basket-weaving, wood turning, and stick making, while family fun ranged from non-stop music, including jazz, a bouncy castle, and children’s craft workshops.
