FORMER harbourmaster Frankie Elson is hoping to raise £1000-plus for St Margaret’s Hospice by taking a canoe across Minehead Bay – upside-down!
He will set out from the shore at Minehead Golf Club and head for the slipway at the harbour at 10am high tide on Sunday, August 21.
But he will do it by walking along the bottom of the seabed, holding the canoe upside down over his head which will create a space enabling him to breathe.
Frankie wanted to do something for the hospice that has never been done before, and he is no stranger to the sea being the ex-harbourmaster of Minehead.
“I am excited at the thought of achieving this challenge and raising much needed funds for the hospice,” said Frankie, who expects his ‘walk’ to take around an hour.
St Margaret’s Hospice relies on people’s generosity to provide the £7.5 million it needs every year to make each day count for patients, families and carers facing a life-limiting illness across Somerset.
