A FORMER children’s centre in Williton is being sold off by Somerset Council with a guide price of £215,000 as it continues a near-two-year battle to raise money to avoid going bankrupt.
The council has asked development land and planning specialists Greenslade Taylor Hunt (GTH) to conduct the sale of the building, in Killick Way.
The firm believes the 0.08 acres property has potential for a range of other uses, including commercial or residential, subject to planning permission being obtained.
It is one of a number of no longer wanted buildings which the council has decided to sell against the wishes of Williton Parish Council, which has queried how properties built with public money can be so easily discarded.
The two-storey building has a mix of classroom and consulting rooms, an accessible toilet, and a kitchen.

On the first floor there is a large open-plan classroom, family room, separate kitchen, two more toilets, and storage.
The building also benefits from a platform lift.
Although it does not have allocated parking, it is next to the Killick Way public car park.
GTH is asking for offers to be submitted by 12 noon on Friday, September 26.
The company has recently been overseeing an auction of Beckett House, a small business hub in Bridge Street, Williton, which the county authority has also deemed surplus to requirements.
The bidding deadline was last week for Beckett House, which has a guide price of £200,000, but GTH extended the window by a week until 12 noon on Friday (August 15).
Beckett House is tenanted and income producing, but GTH said it could appeal to developers.
More information about the children’s centre can be obtained by calling James Nelson or Joseph Hughes at GTH on 01823 334466 or 01823 334455, or by emailing [email protected] or [email protected].
