AROUND 1,500 pensioners in South Somerset entitled to the winter fuel payments have not received a penny.
That is the conclusion of Yeovil MP David Laws after being notified through the release of Parliamentary Questions that over one million people across the country are owed up to £200 million in winter fuel payments.
Said Mr Laws: "This is a fiasco of the Government's own making. When they introduced the winter fuel payment scheme it was obviously discriminatory. Even with two years to put things right, the Government has failed to get to grips with this problem."
