THIRTEEN Porlock women put on their high heels to sashay down the catwalk in festive fashion and smart casual apparel in front of 200 people last Thursday.
They were taking part in the village’s latest community event – a winter fashion show that raised over £1000 for Porlock Visitor Centre.
It was organised by the centre jointly with Porlock’s womenswear retailer Jana Henrie last Thursday when 39 different outfits were modelled together with a display of knitting yarn and patterns.
Womenswear and accessory suppliers donated prizes for the raffles that took place during the refreshments served after the shows.
Shop owner Jane Dyer was delighted to collaborate with the Porlock Visitor Centre and hold her first fashion show in nine years.
“There’s a huge amount of work involved in running such events with so much time and effort given by many individuals,” she said.
“However, the outcome was amazing with audience and helpers having fun and a lot of money raised for the Visitor Centre.”
The event also hosted the annual transfer of funds raised for the centre by the Friends of Porlock Visitor Centre, a group of supporters who provide financial support throughout the year.
Nigel Southwood, representing the Friends, presented a cheque to the centre for £5,500.
Wendy Powell, visitor centre manager said: “The fashion shows exceeded our expectations on so many fronts and profits were in excess of £1,000. Together with the amazing sum raised by our Friends, we are truly grateful for the generosity of all involved”.
The money raised will go toward the running costs of the centre for the coming year. Porlock Visitor Centre is open six days a week throughout the year.
