PORLOCK Visitor Centre staff and friends said a fond farewell to Jenny Carter, who was a joint manager at the centre for more than 14 years.

Colleagues said that Jenny had made a huge contribution to the success of the centre, and her extensive knowledge and her calm, efficient manner had helped sort out a huge variety of problems over the years, ranging from runaway children to lost dogs.

Jenny said she had thoroughly enjoyed her time in Porlock and loved the unpredictability of each day: “You never knew what you would be faced with, but I like a challenge and hope that I always sent customers away feeling happy.

“If I didn’t know the answer, I tried to find a man who did know.”

A special lunch-time buffet was held at The Cafe at Porlock Weir to mark her retirement, and she was presented with garden centre vouchers and a bouquet.
