A DOZEN or more organisations supporting young people and families joined in the first family fun day on Exford’s Queen Elizabeth II playing field organised by Exmoor Young Voices (EYV), a voluntary group helping youngsters on the moor.

The highly successful event, involving a barbecue, a raffle, and a wide range of games and activities, was planned to bring local families together for a free afternoon where children were at the heart of everything.

From face painting and nature crafts to netball, sucker archery, giant jigsaws, welly wanging, and a bouncy castle, there was plenty to keep everybody busy.

While the children were busy having fun, parents and grandparents could relax with food and refreshments, catch up with friends, and enjoy a chat with neighbours.

There was also a wide selection of prizes given by local businesses and organisations, including a larch garden bench from local firm Three Atop Woodland Services.

The day brought together Minehead EYE, In the Mix Project, Minehead Rotary Club, Home-Start West Somerset, Dulverton Netball Club, Exmoor Pioneers, Exmoor Youth Board, Exmoor Community Youth Club, Thrive village agents, Wild Wellies, and Exmoor Young Farmers.

As well as meeting families in the heart of Exmoor, groups had the opportunity to connect with each other, share ideas, and explore ways to collaborate and strengthen support for young people and families.

EYV, recipients of the 2024 King’s Award for Voluntary Service, thanked Exford Parish Council, the playingfield committee, Somerset Association of Local Councils, and all the volunteers, activity providers, and everybody else who helped make the day possible.

A spokesperson said: “It was a brilliant first step toward building stronger local partnerships and creating more opportunities for young people and families on Exmoor, and perhaps the first of many family fun days.”
