Simon Brown and Janet Tapp of Watchet Coronavirus Community Help team hooked the catch of the day when they netted a £250 cheque for group funds from chairman Bob Cramp on behalf of Watchet Conservation Society.

Former angling enthusiast Bob, who has been self-isolating, said: “It’s a really nice sea-fishing rod which I haven’t used for 20 years but it seemed a good way of personally delivering our cheque while conforming to social distancing on the rare occasion I venture out.

“Who knows? It might catch on as a remote-control way of doing your shopping.!”

The donation, to the Quantock Food Bank, has been made via the Help Group’s new ’Go Fund Me’ page.

A Conservation Society spokesman said: “In normal times we concern ourselves with protecting our heritage, both the built and natural environments. However, in these unrivalled times we have decided to come to the aid of the living, and help those who are less fortunate than ourselves and finding life difficult and a struggle.”
