TWO events take place over the next few days in Timberscombe offering opportunities to learn more abut the history of Knowle Manor.

The village’s annual fete and street party on Saturday (August 8) from 2 pm to 7 pm, as well as being a fund-raiser for the children’s play area, will feature a history group exhibition in the village hall.

A spokesperson said: “Come and learn about the seismic change to our village and beyond with the sale of the Knowle Estate in 1916.”

The exhibition runs from 10 am to 4 pm and has original materials from the 1916 estate catalogue, including the six maps delineating the multitude of properties, including farms, which show the extent of the geographical spread of the manor estate and some of the sale prices realised.

Full details of all the local properties included will be on show along with other historic maps of the local area.

Entry for St Petrock’s History Group members is £2 and £4 for non-members, with children free, and refreshments will be available.

The fete and street party will have a variety of family fun activities with arts and crafts, facepainting, games, stalls, a bouncy castle, live music, and a barbecue.

Then, on Wednesday, August 12, St Petrock’s parochial church council is hosting an open gardens and cream tea in Knowle Manor from 3 pm to 5 pm, courtesy of Ruth and Kevin Lammacraft, who have opened their grounds as a fund-raising event for the church.

The event will be another opportunity to learn some of the history of the estate and see it in its full summer splendour.

Tickets are available from the Timberscombe Post Office at £8, or on the day on the gate to Knowle Manor for £10, with children under five years free, but dogs are not permitted.
