FRESH from his run at London's Young Vic, Tim Crouch announces his only performance this year of ‘I, Malvolio’ at Wiveliscombe Town Hall this October.
Wiveliscombe Town Hall continues to prove itself as the place to go for an all round great night of live theatre and film. This time, Crouch brings his pioneering one-man show I, Malvolio, to the old town hall for one night only this year.
Crouch has been working with an array of stars to deliver his show An Oak Tree, from David Tennant to Jessie Buckley. He is currently in rehearsals for his version of The Tempest for Shakespeare's Globe, and Wivey is thrilled to be hosting such a theatrical powerhouse.
“I’ll be revenged on the whole pack of you.”
I, Malvolio is a charged and often unsettling rant from a man “notoriously wronged”, a man adrift in front of cruel spectators. It’s Twelfth Night told from the loser’s perspective. In a story of lost dignity, prudery, practical jokes and bullying, Malvolio draws his audience into the madness of Shakespeare's play and makes it his own.
I, Malvolio re-imagines Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night from the point of view of its most notoriously abused steward. It’s a charged, hilarious and sometimes unsettling rant from a man adrift in front of a cruel audience. Part abject clown, part theatre-hating disciplinarian, Malvolio asks his audience to explore the pleasure we take in other people’s suffering.
I, Malvolio will open on Saturday, October 11, starting at 7pm.
For half term, the town hall will also be screening a filmed version of the Little Bulb & Royal Opera House smash hit Wolf Witch Giant Fairy. Little Bulb opened the new town hall programme to standing ovations with Mountain Music in October 2023 and continues to support the venue.
