A FUND-raising mission throughout the summer to urgently repair Watchet’s 97-year-old war memorial ground pavilion will involve a wide range of events, from fun runs and a dog show to car boot sales, the committee has announced.

A spokesperson said: “The pavilion is in a very poor state.

“As with most organisations, we are very short of funds, our income is just from teams and donations.

“We plan a maritime-themed fun run on August 1, but our main effort will be a series of four Sunday afternoon car boot sales.”

The first fun dog show on the recreation ground will be on Sunday, May 17, starting at 11 am, with entries from 10.30 am.

Ten classes will include a mini agility course and a ‘resist the sausage’ competition.

The overall winner will receive a trophy from Martyn Summers in memory of his wife, Sara.

Attractions include animal and wildlife stalls and refreshments.

Donna Terry Art has given a raffle prize of a portrait of the winner’s pet valued at £200.

There will also be a carvery and prizes and vouchers from Doniford Farm Park, the Windmill Inn, West Somerset Hotel, Maria Casual Wear, Raw4Life Somerset dog food, and the Onion Collective.

Other goodies include from the Dog Cafe, Juliet Cakes, Quantock Stores, Everest Pet Food, the Pet Centre, Alcombe, Pickard Country Store, and a discount on dog training from Hera K9 training academy.

Sponsored by Watchet Task Force, Watchet Town Council, and Sharon Pet Services, entry forms will be available at Alberts 'Ardware, Watchet Visitors Centre, Maria's Casual Wear, Glenmore House Veterinary Surgery, and via the recreation ground committee' group Facebook page.

Sunday car boot sales will be held on the memorial ground on May 10, June 14, July 12, and August 9, with cars charged at £5.
