POOR weather meant a mid-week community paint day in Watchet’s new wheeled park had to be postponed until the weekend.

Instead, youngsters are being invited to join street artist Charlie McFarley on Sunday (April 19) when the weather forecast looks better.

Mr McFarley has been commissioned by the town council to create a mural on the steps of the new ramps in the Henry Davey Recreation Ground, in South Road.

The project is similar to one which was created on a wall of Watchet Community Centre when a multi-use games area (MUGA) was built in the war memorial recreation ground.

Town council asset management committee chairman Cllr John Irven said: “This forms part of the youth outreach stem of the funding grant and fits perfectly with the requirements of the funding criteria.”

Mr McFarley, who has exhibited in galleries across the UK, said: “I will be painting this Sunday as the weather looks good.

“Please feel free to pop down and say hi and I will try to get as many people involved in the mural as possible.”

Mr McFarley also held two street art workshops for youngsters in February during the schools half-term holiday.

Hundreds of children and parents attended the opening of the £150,000 wheeled park last month, which was built with funding provided by the town council, Rural England Prosperity Fund, and the Hinkley Point C Community Fund.
