AN 11-year-old prodigy, who learned the piano from scratch at the age of six during the Covid lockdown, will be the solo performer at the latest concert in the ‘Our Aspiring Young Musicians’ series at Dunster’s Yarn Market Hotel on Sunday, December 7.
River Peryer, from Barnstaple, now plays with adult symphony orchestras and recently won a prize at the prestigious Two Moors Festival.
Recently awarded a musical scholarship, River’s concerts have raised large sums for cancer research in memory of his grandmother who encouraged him to learn the piano.
The Yarn Market Hotel’s concerts showcase the next generation of classical performers through its ‘Our Aspiring Young Musicians’ series, held on the first Sunday of every winter month.
The popular events provide young musicians with a platform to perform for a live audience in a welcoming and professional setting, enriching the hotel’s long-standing tradition of musical events and concerts.
So far, three talented young performers - Victoria Stolte, Ginevra Dobson, and Belinda Gifford Guy - have taken part in the series, each impressing audiences.
The next concert featuring River Peryer will also include a drinks reception at 4.30 pm with the performance at 5 pm.
Guests can also enjoy a two-course Sunday lunch or dinner as part of the event.
Hotel manager Antony Brunt said: “Our aim is to nurture and support young musicians at the beginning of their artistic journeys.
“We are passionate about creating opportunities for young performers to gain experience and confidence while bringing exceptional live music to our guests and the local community.”
“The Westcountry has some wonderful young talent, both vocal and instrumental, and we should support them in any way we can.”
Tickets are £35 per person, which includes a two-course meal (lunch or evening), drinks reception, and performance, via 01643 821425 or [email protected].
