CHILDREN’S drama group Oasis Youth Theatre are ready to perform their latest show Annie Jr in the Regal Theatre, Minehead, next week.
The show is based on the comic strip and adapted from the Tony Awards-winning best musical, with a beloved book and score by award winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin.
It features everybody’s favourite little redhead Annie Jr in her very first adventure.
The youngsters will be performing at 7.30 pm nightly from Thursday, May 29 to Saturday, May 31, with tickets at £10 for adults, £6 for children, and £8 for ES40/Regal Friends, while a family of four can find seats for £25.
With equal measures of ‘pluck and positivity’ little orphan Annie charms everybody’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City.
Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan.
She eventually foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Oasis Theatre and Performing Arts has been putting on productions in Minehead since its formation in 2002.
It was set up to include all children across West Somerset, with or without individual special needs and abilities.
A spokesperson said: “Our aim with this work is to offer people with physical or learning disabilities, and also any others who suffer from disadvantaged or deprived backgrounds, the chance of learning from each other and having fun together.
“It does not matter who you are, we will always welcome, encourage, and support you.”
Oasis offers weekly classes in various types of dance and musical theatre as well as an opportunity to join in a wide range of shows throughout the year.
