PUPILS from all four years of Minehead Middle School took to the stage for two nights in the town’s Regal Theatre to perform Matilda Jr.
The production, under the leadership of school’s head of performing arts Shelby Yelland and teachers Anna Daley and Ashleigh Stubbs, followed months of rehearsals.
The cast was rewarded for their hard work with standing ovations on both nights.
It was the first time the middle school had performed their school production in the Regal and for some of the students it was their first time performing on a stage.

Ms Yelland said: “From the very first note to the final bow, the energy, creativity, and dedication of the entire cast were truly remarkable.
“Every student involved poured their heart and soul into this production, and it showed.
“The hard work in rehearsals, the teamwork behind the scenes, and the sheer joy on stage made this a show to remember.
“A huge well done to the entire cast of Matilda Jr 2025.”
Staff and volunteers in the Regal were thanked for a warm welcome and technical support, and thanks also went to parents and carers who supported and helped, Jo Chilcott for sourcing props and costumes, and Darcy Ahern, of LADA Dance Academy, for helping with the choreography.

Headteacher Laura Mackie said: “It was a special moment of pride and privilege to witness our remarkable cast of ‘Matilda’ perform to sold-out audiences for two consecutive nights.
“The dedication and commitment displayed by our students were nothing short of extraordinary.
“Countless hours of rehearsals, choreography, and vocal training culminated in a truly polished and outstanding production that showcased the immense talent within our school.
“Hosting this event in our community theatre was a fantastic opportunity, and we envision this as the first of many collaborations.”
