WAYS in which everyone can help to protect the environment will be explored at the second.

Minehead Climate Fair on Saturday, October 25, at the Avenue Methodist church hall with the theme “What can I do to make a difference?”

Organised by the West Somerset Green Forum, the free event will be open from 2-5pm and will provide a wide range of information on creating mini-habitats and corridors for wildlife in gardens and communities, and how supporting sustainable food-production and farming helps nature recovery.

Visitors will also be able to learn about the role of ethical finance in supporting a fairer future for people and the environment, and explore ways to reduce household waste.

There will be a display of plastic-free goods from Minehead’s award-winning ‘Our Precious Earth’ shop, and information on all the local climate groups and local repair cafés

Information will also be available on how to cut home energy costs, local community transport schemes, and approaches to local flood resilience plus mini-talks on these themes.

The Stacked Wonky youth group will be in attendance again, inspiring visitors to take action and free pond kits will be available to take away from Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Ponds Alive! project.

“Last year’s fair exceeded our wildest expectations,” said West Somerset Green Forum’s Elizabeth Atkinson, who is helping to coordinate this year’s event.

“Once again, local organisations have been really keen to be involved and the positive theme is a real inspiration. As we’ve said each year, no one comes to an event for the feel-bad factor!

“This is not about gloom and doom - it’s about feeling good about the small things we can do to make life better for ourselves and the planet, and the support available to help us to do them. It’s an event with something for everyone!
