MINEHEAD Town Council wants residents to back its efforts to get the café in Blenheim Gardens re-opened.
The popular venue was shut by the former West Somerset Council last November, and since then there has been pressure to get it opened again.
The old district council owned Blenheim Gardens and the café, and that ownership passed to the new Somerset West and Taunton Council on April 1.
Now the town council is urging people to help resolve the situation by writing letters of support and appearing at the council’s annual meeting on Tuesday (May 14) when the matter will be raised with the new district council’s chief executive James Hassett.
A town council spokesman said this week: “We only became aware of the closure of the café at the same time as the residents.
“We have worked hard behind the scenes ever since to secure a commitment from the district council for interim café and concession arrangements which unfortunately was not successful.
“However with a new district council and a new chief executive, Minehead Town Council is doubling its efforts to find an acceptable resolution to this important issue for the town.
“We will again be asking the new council to put a notice on the café confirming their ownership and its plans for the building.”
