SCHOOLCHILDREN at Dunster First School had the chance to work with an award winning poet – and show their own talents too.

Josh Seigal, who has worked in hundreds of schools, libraries and theatres, and whose work is published by major publishers, visited the school as part of a Somerset tour.

It was organised by the Somerset Literacy Network and funded by Wells Literary Festivals and Friends of Dunster First School.

Children in key stage two, aged seven to 11, enjoyed a workshop and performance with Josh, while younger ages were treated to an energetic poetry performance.

“Josh’s visit was a fantastic opportunity for our children to experience ‘live poetry’ from a published poet,” said Ellen Vickery, the school’s literacy co-ordinator.

Josh is currently in the running for the Laugh Out Loud awards 2020 for his book ‘I Bet I Can Make You Laugh: The Funniest Poems Around’, and his books have won numerous awards.

Since 2016 he has also been, along with various other poets, a National Poetry Day Ambassador.
