YOUNG people can learn about the ins and outs of film-making when the BFI Film Club comes to Minehead this summer.

Youngsters aged 12-15 will be able gain skills in scriptwriting, cinematography, lighting, video editing and acting in the free courses.

Professional film-makers will lead the club and the final films created will be screened to families and friends at the Regal Theatre in Minehead.

The club in Minehead is one of programme across England and is being run by Bridgwater charity Somerset Film.

Leigh Adams, director of Education and Skills at the BFI, said: “Through these new BFI film clubs we want to inspire the next generation of film-makers, giving young people who might feel that it’s not for them, or that it’s an impossible dream, the chance to explore a range of films and other screen-based media, gain a real understanding of what goes into making them, the breadth of job roles available, and the pathways to other BFI programmes where they could learn more.”

The courses run on June 1-5 and June 9 and 12, and July 26-31 and August 7, with Wednesday, June 9, and Saturday, July 31, half days.

Application forms can be downloaded at www.somersetfilm.com/bfi The deadline for applications is May 21 for the June course and July 16 for the July course.
