DANESFIELD Church of England School will be keeping its name after parents, staff, carers and children voted overwhelmingly in favour of it.

Governors had proposed a name change for when the Quantock is dissolved to join with several others and become the new West Somerset Academies Trust.

They had proposed the name Quantock Church of England Middle School to mark the fresh start.

Some governors and staff were positive about the change but, when the vote was put to all staff, parents, carers and children at the three schools that make up the Quantock Academy an overwhelming majority voted to keep’Danesfield’.

About 100 parents voted, roughly a third from each school in the academy – Danesfield Church of England School, St Peter’s Church of England First School and Cleeve C of E First School. Sixty per cent were against changing the name, 30 per cent said they wanted to change it and ten per cent had no opinion either way.
