A MINEHEAD model club has taken part in a world record bid, to mark 100 years of the British Model Flying Association.

On Sunday, along with modellers across the country, members of the Minehead & District Model Club launched their mini planes into the air at exactly noon hoping to secure the Guinness Book of Records world record for the number of model aircraft in the air at the same time.

Formed in 1922, the British Model Flying Association now has over 30,000 members.

In spite of a strong and cold wind, members of Minehead Club sent airborne a full range of models, from a simple chuck glider to a fully aerobatic radio-controlled flying wing. Eighteen models were in the air at the same time, filmed via drone.

The Minehead club was formed in January 1975 and has flown from a site on North Hill for over 35 years.
