SIR — Dunster by Candlelight 2001 was the best ever. The weather was really kind to us and I think we had the most people on both nights. I really am very grateful to everyone who helped in any way.
We also had the best-ever collection for the hospice. The entertainers' collecting boxes produced approximately £3,000, Miles Tea Company gave £788.80, Cheshire Rail Tours collected £455 on their particular train and the Quantock Rotary Club presented £1,475 from their pig roast.
To top everything, Charlie Lynch, from Minehead, won the first prize of £1,000 in the draw and presented it to the hospice which was wonderful.
The overall total was £8,109, better by far than we have ever done before.
We have had some wonderful letters from all over the country praising candlelight, which makes all the hard work worth while.
We have come a long way over the years and although the event draws many more people these days and brings a lot more business to the whole area, the atmosphere stays the same.
Mrs Hannah Bradshaw,
Chairman,
Dunster by Candlelight.
