SIR — I am writing because, despite a public consultation being in its seventh week and two public consultation seminars having been held in Minehead and Williton, many of the people who I meet on a daily basis have no idea the district council is consulting on the future size and shape of West Somerset.

Policy and plans are to be put before the 28 district councillors to determine how, where, and when 2,900 houses should be built to meet the needs of the district over the next 20 years.

Strategic land has been identified in Minehead, Williton and Watchet.

Statutory consultees such as the town council, as well as the general public, are being asked to submit their responses to the plan before the consultation period ends on Monday September 23.

This plan and change in policy will have a big impact on development within West Somerset, with Minehead taking the lion's share.

It is extremely important that all residents should know what is planned and vital they have the opportunity to respond to the consultation process.

Future development of the town will be determined by this policy, and the legacy it leaves will be with us for ever.

Responses can be made via the http://www.westsomersetsays.com">www.westsomersetsays.com website where the full document can also be downloaded. Responses may also be made via email to [email protected]">[email protected] or by post to West Somerset House in Williton.

I may be able to supply paper copies to people without computer access.

Cllr Andrew Hadley,

Minehead Central Ward,

West Somerset Council.
