SIR — I was interested to see in this week’s edition of “This Was the News” a report from 1990 of villagers in Luccombe fundraising to keep their self help tv relay working.

Enthusiasts on the web site mb21.co.uk endeavour to record and photograph all public broadcast installations including the many locally financed self help relays.

Luccombe is one for which we have so far been unsuccessful and believe it to be no longer in existence.

Are there any readers who remember this and could tell us anything about it, even better if there were ever any photographs. I can be contacted by email at [email protected] or on 01598 763261.

On another matter, I have been following with interest the correspondence concerning the West Somerset Railway running a commuter service and the numerous negative comments.

I believe in South Devon, a heritage steam line operates between Kingswear and Paignton and is relied on by many as a way to get to work and college, so it can be run successfully.

M J Mugford,

Parracombe.
