ONE of the newest appointments to Tory-controlled West Somerset District Council's ruling cabinet - Cllr Terry Venner - has resigned following concerns over the way the authority is being run. Cllr Venner took over the leisure, culture and recreation portfolio last May. But he told the Free Press yesterday (Thursday) that he believed he could better represent his Minehead South ward outside of the cabinet - a system he had never felt at ease with. Cllr Venner said his resignation was prompted by concerns over a number of issues, including the decision to advertise for a media and public relations officer before the publication of a long awaited communications review. "I am unhappy with the cabinet set-up and do not believe it is working for the benefit of the people who elected us," said Cllr Venner. "I am just very disillusioned."
