PORLOCK Vale  residents are invited to attend a “community conversation” at Allerford Village Hall tomorrow night (Friday) at 7pm to contribute to a new economic plan to boost tourism in the area.

Porlock Vale Coastal Community Team, running the event, is anxious for community input before setting out plans for making Porlock Vale a “destination to live and work in for years to come”.

Coastal Community Teams are Government supported local partnerships, consisting of the local authority and a range of people and business interests.

West Somerset councillor Karen Mills, who chairs the Porlock Vale Coastal Communities Team, said: “We need to think about how we can be our most prosperous in the future – how we are to retain our young people, provide adequate housing and reap the benefits of the major construction work at Hinkley C power station.

“She said the community conversation would be followed by a questionnaire delivered to all houses in the area and posted online at the beginning of next year.

“We also plan to ask teenagers what their hopes are for the future of the area, and speak to all local businesses, to get a thorough understanding of the hopes and fears of a full cross section of our population.”
