SIR — I write in response to the letter about problems with children playing outside our new homes at Brackensfield (Free Press March 28).
Magna West Somerset's housing officer for Alcombe has been responding to some complaints about children from the new homes making noise and playing football and causing a nuisance for adjoining neighbours in Marshfield Road.
To try to deal with these complaints proactively, our housing officer has visited the estate on a number of occasions with the local police community support officer and spoken to local children and their parents.
This is a new estate and families are still settling in. We are confident that the new tenants want to develop a good relationship with their neighbours and that these problems will diminish.

I would like to clarify one point made in the letter. The land that the Brackensfield homes were built on was never green belt land.
The new homes were built on a disused school playing field that was surplus to requirements and was previously owned by Somerset County Council.
