FIREFIGHTERS from Minehead rescued a person trapped in a crashed car on the A39 late on Tuesday night (April 25).

An ambulance crew had been called to the scene of the accident and paramedics then requested help from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue shortly before 11 pm.

Both fire appliances from Minehead and a supporting officer were sent to the location to the west of the town.

The fire and rescue crews found it was a single-vehicle crash and a person was still trapped inside the small car.

The situation was complex and the fire crews worked with the ambulance team to create a plan to free the casualty using hydraulic cutting equipment.

It was the early hours of Wednesday before the casualty was rescued and handed over to paramedics who took the patient to hospital.

Police then took charge of the incident.
