WEST Somerset residents are being encouraged to understand their health after research revealed four-in-10 adults had never thought about their risk of developing type two diabetes.

It can lead to life-changing complications, including heart disease, stroke, and sight loss if left undiagnosed or unmanaged.

However, with the right support, cases can be prevented or delayed, making early awareness and action particularly important.

Tesco and Diabetes UK are encouraging people to use the free online Diabetes UK ‘Know Your Risk’ tool, or speak to a trained pharmacist in the supermarket pharmacy.

AMBLE not Ramble heads to Webbers Post, on Exmoor, on Wednesday (August 19), meeting in the car park at 10.30 am.

The walking group is designed for people with memory loss, lack of mobility, and/or just loss of confidence, or anybody who enjoys a relaxed pace when walking.

The walk will be a maximum of an hour and will end with tea and coffee.

THE final Thursday evening dance out for the West Somerset Morris for this season takes place on Thursday (August 20).

The dancers will be in Crowcombe, dancing outside the Carew Arms at 8.30 pm.

THIS year’s Kilve open gardens event was raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Brian Ward.

Fine weather helped to attract 55 paying visitors and saw more than £250 profit raised from tickets, donations, plant sales, and refreshments.

Mr Ward’s wife Julie and his family had suggested Macmillan should be the beneficiary as the charity gave the family significant support over the years while he had cancer.

Spokesperson Sarah Hayward said: “We also know other members of our community have, and indeed continue to benefit from their work.

“The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, and every one of them needs the best support to meet their unique needs.

“That is why Macmillan will do whatever it takes to help everybody living with cancer across the UK get the support they need right now and transform cancer care for everybody who will be diagnosed in the future.”
