RESIDENTS in Minehead’s Broadlands retirement home can look forward to additional activities, entertainment, and trips out, funded by a sponsored walk by four of the home’s management team, due to take place on June 24.
Manager Laura O’Grady, deputy-manager Vicky Fagan, maintenance manager Emma O’Grady, and kitchen manager Charlee Codd will set out from Broadlands, in Ponsford Road, at 6.30 am on a 17.5-mile walk along the rugged South West Coast Path to Lynmouth.
The team have already raised nearly £400 of their £1,000 target.
Broadlands, founded in 1945 by local people who wanted ‘to give back something to the community’, is a retirement community and non-profit charity for residents who want to remain independent.
Any profit made goes straight back into improving the building, the services, and the decoration to ensure the best environment for clients.
A spokesperson for the walkers said: “None of us have ever done anything like this before.
“All the money raised by the sponsored walk will go into the residents’ fund which is for anything the residents would like to do throughout the year.
“These activities include events like trips around Exmoor, visits to places of interest, cafes and tea-gardens, entertainment, birthday parties, special Christmas events, indoor activities such as Scrabble, and outdoor games like garden chess.
“We ask that you support us to be able to continue to provide the amazing service that our clients and families have grown to love.”
The coastal path from Minehead to Lynmouth is officially regarded as one of the most challenging sections of the 630-mile trail.
It includes steep ascents and descents and high exposure cliff sections around Foreland Point.
The route contains some of the England’s highest sea cliffs with unfenced drops of about 1,000 feet.
The staff have set up a GoFundMe page for anybody who wants to support them.
