HAVING reluctantly decided to cancel their Christmas concert for reasons of Covid safety, members of Watchet Choral Society gathered on the steps of Watchet Methodist Church to sing a selection of carols, gently illuminated by the beautifully-lit church porch.

The listening crowd joined in enthusiastically, using special large-print carol books for seeing in the dark!

The choir rose to the occasion with a warm, full sound - difficult to produce outdoors.

Special praise goes to the choir's bass singer for his beautiful harmonies and to the choir's soprano section for the richly-sung descant to Good King Wenceslas.

As fingers and toes grew colder, hearts grew warmer, with the society's new conductor, Emily Feldberg, keeping everyone feeling chirpy.

A collection was made for the Watchet Coastguards, and choir-members and audience alike went away feeling one step closer to Christmas.
