CHILDREN were made for the outdoors – at least that’s what a federation of West Somerset first schools found when they held a special day, focusing on sustainability through outdoor eco activities, towards the end of last – Dunster, St Dubricius in Porlock, Timberscombe, Exford and Cutcombe – enjoyed a day when their entire curriculum was devoted to learning about the environment.

The event saw over £200 raised by families in the federation for the charity Just One Tree.

The outdoor eco activities day saw Dunster and Timberscombe first schools come together and spend the morning in the woods at the Moorland Edge forest school area behind Dunster School, while St Dubricius pupils planted two new apple trees in their school grounds and spent the day doing creative projects.

Cutcombe schoolchildren planted a new tree in their school garden, while at Exford the children enjoyed the local woods and spent time in class getting to grips with the science and maths that the learning opportunity provided.
