FAMILY and friends of a Porlock woman who died from cancer last year are holding a special walk and evening party on Saturday August 20 to raise funds for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice in her memory.
And leading the way will be Minehead Barbarians Under 15s.
The team will be supporting their captain Louie Chiswell, 14, along with his father Chris and sister Georgia, 18, some of the family of Tina who died after a long fight against breast cancer.
Originally, Tina had been planning a big 50th birthday last July, but instead her family and friends marked the occasion as a celebration of her life and raised over £6,000 for the hospice which cared for her and supported the family.
“We want to keep on supporting St Margaret’s for as long as we possibly can – and this year we hope to even possibly beat that figure,” said Chris.
His construction management company also sponsored the young Barbarians’ team kit in Tina’s memory this season.
“The hospice is a wonderful place for people to go, with wonderful staff, and they need all the support they can get.”
The sponsored walk will cover the 12 to 14 miles along the coastal path from Lynmouth to Porlock, and is open to everyone.
It will start at 9am in Countisbury car park, finish at Porlock Village Hall and is estimated to take about four and a half hours.
In the evening, there will be a party in the hall with the band Rough Justice, plus a raffle, food and a bar, all in aid of the hospice.
“Local businesses are donating raffle prizes, and people are welcome to join in both or either event – the more the merrier,” said Chris.
