A VILLAGE gardening group has been given new planters by housebuilder Crest Nicholson to help keep the community looking blooming lovely.

Cannington in Bloom received the sustainable, self-watering planters from Crest Nicholson, which is developing the Grange Meadows estate in the village.

The planters have been sited close to the village entrance to make a pleasant welcome for both visitors and residents.

Crest Nicholson sales executive Suzie Wakefield and parish councillors Ian Dyer and Carole Taylor joined Cannington in Bloom members to celebrate the official handover, and a plaque was placed on the planters to commemorate the gift.

The gardening group forms part of the national Britain in Bloom movement and is made up of volunteers who work to improve the local environment, promoting greener surroundings, sustainability, environmental responsibility, and community involvement.

This year, Cannington has taken part in the South West In Bloom competition, the results of which are due to be announced next month.

Crest Nicholson South West sales and marketing director Clare Brimble said: “The work of Cannington in Bloom not only brings local people closer together, but it also helps to make the village a more beautiful place.

“We are delighted to be able to support their important work with this donation and hope both villagers and visitors are enjoying seeing the beautiful planters as they enter Cannington.”

Cannington in Bloom’s Tina Uren said: “We would like to thank the team at Crest Nicholson for their very generous donation which has enabled us to purchase the stunning planters at our village entrance.

“We are also delighted that the new homes in Crest Nicholson’s Grange Meadows development are attracting new contributors to ‘greening’ our village, including new water wardens and prize winners in our front garden competition.”

The Grange Meadows development is now more than 95 per cent sold, with only three four-bedroom houses remaining.
